Having a Mental Health condition may result in that person displaying behaviours that may challenge:
- Displaying aggression or self-injurious behaviour (that may not be related to mental health) some may have a specific neurodevelopmental syndrome where there is a likelihood of developing behaviours that may challenge
- Display risky behaviours which put the person or others at risk, displaying sexually inappropriate behaviour, risk of starting fires, are aggressive, this may lead to police involvement and criminal charges, court appearances, and a risk of being detained under the Mental Health act.
- Often the people involved have a lower level of support or have slipped the net and have not been picked by health care professionals and may come from dis-advantaged/troubled backgrounds where there has been substance misuse.
Heaton Support Services’ approach is one of encouragement and empowerment, putting wellbeing at the front, and always person-centred. We will encourage and support people to take responsibility, and our focus will be on community interaction and social inclusion, activities that help and develop.
